Task: You will become an expert on one element of U.S. immigration history by researching the topic, creating a one-page Wiki page and reporting to the class on your topic (3-4 minutes).
Your Wiki page should include: 1. Definition of the element 2. Historical background needed to understand the topic 3. Explanation of the positive and negative effects the element has had on immigration 4. At least two visual elements. Includes: photos, pictures, map, political cartoons, a video 5. A link to a primary source document embedded in the wiki with an explanation of the relevance of that primary source document. 6. Separate page citing sources in MLA format – TURN THIS IN TO ME ON THE DAY THE ASSIGNMENT IS DUE.(At least three sources required)
On October 26th – 28th, you will present your findings to the class when I will project your wiki. Essentially, when called upon, you should be ready to explain the “gist” of your topic in 3-4 minutes. You will not be allowed to read your wiki page as it is a tool for students to reference but refer to it as it contains your visuals and primary source document. Students will take notes during your presentation.
You will need to work with a variety of sources. Be sure to have at least three (3) of the following:
1. Primary document (law, letter, speech, official government document, etc.) 2. Newspaper article 3. mapmaking 4. Encyclopedia or historical entry 5. Historical article (written by a scholar/professor)
